An aristocratic English family gather for the reading of their father's will. The family are dismayed to find that everything has been left to Barbara, the deceased's favourite daughter. The butler is soon found stabbed to death and Sergeant Thorpe, the local bobby, telephones Scotland Yard for assistance. Inspector Grey arrives and he and Barbara narrowly escape being shot. Cousin Ted and his wife Pauline are both killed. Sergeant Thorpe recalls some photos which Ted asked to have developed...

Due to a road accident, the professor Bennett is trapped in his car and, while his wife goes in search of help, the young student Leo - who translated Milarepa's text at his request - tells him the story of the great Tibetan poet, magician and hermit, performing an imaginary journey to the Himalayas and an intimate journey within himself. The story of Milarepa is structured in three parts: that of black magic (the protagonist, encouraged by his mother, learns the art of killing), that of white magic (a journey towards perfection thanks to the harsh teachings of Milarepa's master, Marpa) and that of transfiguration (the achievement of absolute detachment from the material reality).

Roberto, a drummer in a rock band, keeps receiving weird phone calls and being followed by a mysterious man. One night he manages to catch up with his persecutor and tries to get him to talk but in the ensuing struggle he accidentally stabs him. He runs away, but he understands his troubles have just begun when the following day he receives an envelope with photos of him killing the man. Someone is killing all his friends and trying to frame him for the murders.
